I hate starting all these out by saying that I love the book, but I have to say that I loved this book from the moment I looked at the table of contents. The way it is set up, it effectively gives you a sense of what is going to happen in the book, and it even sets a tone, as far as a table of contents can do that. The numbered system also speaks to language, and signs, and patterns, like the chapters do.
I enjoy the way the passages end up being more about language and memory, collective memory and personal memory, than it is about cities, and the way it is more about one city, or cities in general than it is about any particular city at all. The way it is told though, the language is so evocative at times that you can imagine some exotic, specific place. Its so fantastic and humorous, sort of whimsically told, it has just the perfect tone I think.
I am only about half way through the book, so I think I will wait to write more when I'm done. Also, I haven't really picked it up since the day before yesterday, so I would need to refresh my memory about some specifics. Ok, I hope you all enjoy it as much as I do.
